Originally, the real train had a few of the Coach cars were converted to Dining cars. I can't wait to add it to my model Passenger train.

Information about the Great Lakes Central Railroad

(Owosso, Mich.) Great Lakes Central Railroad together with Federated Railways and Federated Railcars was recently granted a 17 million dollar loan through the Railroad Rehabilitation & Improvement Financing (RRIF) Loan Program managed by the Federal Railroad Administration. The loan proceeds will primarily be used to purchase track equipment and locomotives. It will also be used to rehab existing maintenance facilities and upgrade approximately one mile of Great Lakes Central Railroad (GLC) track to handle 286,000 pound loads for a grain shipper and to retire existing debt from past improvement projects.GLC is Michigan’s largest regional, and only Class II, railroad, with 400 miles of track stretching through Central and Northern Michigan. Formerly known as Tuscola Saginaw Bay Railway, the railroad was re-named Great Lakes Central Railroad after its purchase by Louis P. Ferris, Jr. in March 2006. The main offices and principal maintenance facilities are located on a 40-acre site in Owosso, Michigan.GLC provides dependable, integrated transportation benefits to a growing customer base throughout Michigan. Their financial stability has allowed them to retain jobs and create new positions, as well as offer competitive freight rates in conjunction with rail partners throughout North America. The railroad is working closely with the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT), Washtenaw and Livingston counties to start a commuter run between Howell/Brighton and Ann Arbor, branded as WALLY.Great Lakes Central Railroad is dedicated to supporting community goals for transportation efficiencies through its forward thinking and development planning. GLC contributes to a stronger Michigan economy by efficiently serving and supporting its freight customers and future commuter ridership.

DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION
Surface Transportation Board
[STB Finance Docket No. 33822]

Tuscola and Saginaw Bay Railway Company--Acquisition and
Operation Exemption--Grand Trunk Western Railroad Incorporated, and
Central Michigan Railway Company
Tuscola and Saginaw Bay Railway Company (TSBY), a Class III common
carrier, has filed a verified notice of exemption under 49 CFR 1150.41
for its acquisition of a Grand Trunk Western Railroad Incorporated
(GTW) rail line extending from milepost 105.0 to milepost 109.46, in
Owosso, MI, including a short connecting track extending from milepost
63.9 (approximately milepost 107.5 on the first segment) to milepost
64.4, in Owosso, a total distance of approximately 4.96 miles (Owosso
Trackage).\1\ Additionally, as part of the exemption, TSBY's seeks to
continue operations on the Durand-Owosso Line as follows: (1) Over
GTW's line between milepost 94.0 and milepost 97.5, in Durand; (2) over
Central Michigan Railway Company's (CMGN) main line between milepost
97.5, in Durand, and milepost 105, in Owosso; and (3) within CMGN's San
Yard, between milepost 105 and milepost 106, in Owosso. The total
distance of TSBY's operations on the Durand-Owosso Line is
approximately 12 miles.\2\
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
\1\ TSBY states that it acquired the Owosso Trackage pursuant to
a Real Estate Purchase Contract dated October 28, 1997, and that the
acquisition was completed on January 5, 1998. TSBY further states
that it has been operating the Owosso Trackage in conjunction with
other TSBY lines radiating out of Owosso since 1982 and that it will
continue to operate the Owosso Trackage.
\2\ TSBY represents that it has been conducting only overhead
operations on the Durand-Owosso Line pursuant to an Operating
Agreement with the Michigan Department of Transportation dated
September 19, 1985, as amended, but that its operation of the
Durand-Owosso Line also dates to 1982. In 1995, TSBY attempted to
obtain a modified certificate of public convenience and necessity
pursuant to the provisions of 49 CFR 1150, Subpart C, to operate the
Owosso Trackage and the Durand-Owosso Line. See Tuscola and Saginaw
Bay Railway Company, Inc., Modified Certificate, Finance Docket No.
32743 (ICC served Oct. 12, 1995).
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Apparently unaware until recently that further regulatory
authorization was needed, TSBY did not file its verified notice of
exemption with the Board until March 30, 2000. Thus, the effective date
of the exemption is April 6, 2000 (7 days after the exemption was
filed).
If the verified notice contains false or misleading information,
the exemption is void ab initio. Petitions to revoke the exemption
under 49 U.S.C. 10502(d) may be filed at any time. The filing of a
petition to revoke does not automatically stay the transaction.
An original and 10 copies of all pleadings, referring to STB
Finance Docket No. 33822, must be filed with the Surface Transportation
Board, Office of the Secretary, Case Control Unit, 1925 K Street, N.W.,
Washington, DC 20423-0001. In addition, one copy of each pleading must
be served on Kevin M. Sheys, Esq., Oppenheimer Wolff Donnelly & Bayh
LLP, 1350 Eye Street, N.W., Suite 200, Washington, DC 20005-3324.
Board decisions and notices are available on our website at
``WWW.STB.DOT.GOV.''
    Decided: April 4, 2000.
By the Board, David M. Konschnik, Director, Office of
Proceedings.

Just Created A Salt Creek Caboose

Today I took a caboose in G scale and repainted it to cover up the old markings. It was formally a Santa Fe caboose. the idea is to create decals to make it a Salt Creek caboose to go along with the Steam Locomotive I have already repainted for that purpose I hope to have the decals printed in the next week. The Salt Creek railroad is made up using the old town that sat next to the Village of Shepherd in Michigan. Salt Creek has since become a memory.

5 more pounds

I did it - YEA - I've reached the third milestone in my weight loss effort. This makes 15 lbs so far my ultimate goal is another 35 lbs wish me luck. now I get the 52 seat coach car for the Pere Marquette passenger train.

If I keep this up I will get all the cars before spring. I must admit however, this is not getting any easier.

The Illinois Central's City Of New Orleans

"The Illinois Central may have only been a moderately sized Class I system but its passenger services were legendary. While the railroad’s flagship train was the Panama Limited, it’s super luxurious service between New Orleans and Chicago, its fabled City of New Orleans, which plied the same route as the Panama became its most legendary train. While the Panama was all about luxury and first class traveling the City of New Orleans, similar to that of the California Zephyr, was meant to be a vacationing experience that anyone could enjoy. The City of New Orleans would earn renowned status when Steve Goodman wrote that famous song immortalizing the train, City of New Orleans, in 1970 (performed by Arlo Guthrie). Today, due the immense popularity brought to the train by Mr. Goodman’s hit song, Amtrak revived the City of New Orleans in 1981 after a brief hiatus when it was initially discontinued upon the railroad’s startup in 1971."
