Barry's Model Railroad

This is an accounting of my attempts at model railroads N scale and HO or OO. I find it to be a lot of fun. I concentrate my efforts on The New York Central, Ann Arbor, Pere Marquette, Chesapeake and Ohio as it relates to the Pere Marquette, Michigan Central Railroads and my own Salt Creek Railroad. I am also interested in the Tuscola and Saginaw Bay Railway, the Great Lakes Central Railroad, CSX, Norfolk Southern, Union Pacific, and BNSF. You are welcome to give me advice.

Red Means STOP

STOP

Signal Review:

STOP is associated with a clear indication, whether it be a lone RED on a high signal, a R/R, or R/R/R.

Swung at right angles to track STOP

Swung horizontally above the head when standing APPLY AIR BRAKES

STOP APPLY AIR BRAKES

TRAIN HAS PARTED! This tells the trainmen that cars have come loose. Swing up and down in a circle at fill arm's length when the train is running.

'Lantern and Hand signals
The lantern and hand "talk" allows railroad men to signal each other, even when far away or when noise is too loud for whistles or shouting. Our pictures show a lantern, but men could also use flags or their arms. Lanterns allowed train crews to see signals at night.
TRAIN HAS PARTED! This tells the trainmen that cars have come loose. Swing up and down in a circle at fill arm's length when the train is running.'

STOP TRAIN HAS PARTED (uncoupled)!

If the blade is horizontal the semaphore signal means STOP.

If the train is running, Two short whistle blasts indicate the train will STOP.
